  1. Ellen, this is wonderful. Your article is beautifully evocative of Queensview as the microcosmic miniworld in which we spent our formative years. Your reminiscences, and the memories you have inspired in me, are gems to be treasured. QV was an environment of kaleidoscopic qualities. It was where we developed into what we have become; it continues to work its magic as we give it the chance to influence us, even now, as we cherish our renewed contacts from back in the day.

    • Thanks for getting that. That’s how it always felt for me as a child.

  2. Hanging out at the various benches was always interesting; each bench seemed to have its usual gathering of certain people. “Making the rounds” was a major part of my daily life there. I pretty much knew whom to expect at each bench and enjoyed the variety! The seniors were savvy enough to commandeer the one at the beautiful semi-circular flower bed…

    • My goodness. That’s a memory I thought only I had. But my ancient grandmother lived in Queensview, and her social life was conducted during the summer months by the flower beds.

  3. This sounds like a precious slip of the world, the kind of microcosm that both quiets and thrills a child, like an uplifting secret.
